UFFIE – “SEX DREAMS AND DENIM JEANS”
At first glance, French electro rap artist Uffie seems like a cheap ripoff of the oh so popular Ke$ha. Here’s the thing: Uffie came first, waaaay before Ke$ha was telling us how in the mornings she feels like P. Diddy. So why does no one know about Uffie? Two reasons. Uffie is based in France and is one of the members of the ultra-exclusive Ed Banger Record Label. Translation: mainstream music listeners don’t know anything about this label or its artists. The most they know about might be this group Justice with that album that has a big cross on the cover and they have that cool song with the kids singing called D.A.N.C.E. Second reason is that Uffie doesn’t really release music and this album is very very very very overdue (yes, four “very’s”). Pop the Glock, the album’s first single, was originally released four years ago. FOUR YEARS AGO!
But let’s for a second pretend this album was released on time and we didn’t have the annoyance created by the fact of how overdue it is. It’s a pretty solid album. It features production from fellow Banger artists Feadz, SebastiAn, and Mr. Oizo and from the Parisian producer Mirwais. Oizo did a great job on the production for Art of Uff making a dark yet very cool beat combining vocal samples, synths, and a grand piano. The production on Difficult by SebastiAn is also spot on. The simple yet effective use of a piano loop over very basic drums is very catchy despite its simplicity. This album also sees a slight departure from her previous style of lyricism, an “all about me, look how hard I party” style (sounds like another thing Ke$ha seemed to take from Uffie).
Overall, the album does a pretty good job of appealing to the classic Uffie fans and of showing those who might not have know about this Parisian rapper just what her style is all about.
