THE BLACK KEYS – “BROTHERS”
My first taste of “Brothers” came from the video of the single “Tighten Up” (produced by Danger Mouse). After falling in love with the concept of the video and the song itself, I decided that I should give the album a full listen.
It is the most efortlessly catchy of the band’s six albums and, as a result, very easy to listen to in full. Dan Auerbach’s voice is perfectly accented by chunky blues riffs in songs like “Howlin’ for You” and it seems like he uses a different arsenal of pedals for every recording. A barage of sounds are delivered from his guitar in every song. Patrick Carney’s floor tom-driven grooves give the music a pace that allows one to settle into the music as it comes at them. It seems that The Keys have truly mastered their craft as this is the most synergetic of their efforts to date (which is ironic because of the fact that both members engaged in solo projects before recording this album).
My advice to a new Black Keys listener: listen to this album first. If you enjoy it, just work your way backwards.
